Ciao Florence and a sick day in Venice

Up and packed by 10, we headed out for a slow wander to the Florence train station, where we'd pick up our 1:15 train to Venice. Alex and I lingered at our breakfast spot, drinking hot chocolate and eating croissants. We had stopped at a pharmacy, which for some reason are everywhere in Florence, maybe every two blocks or so, and picked up more ibuprofen and a cough medicine for me and my best friend, the chest cold from hell. I tried to suss out the active ingredients online and determined that it was okay to take, but I was surprised at how sleepy it made me. So our sleepy, sick, sore selves needed a place to hang out for an hour before grabbing our train. That's how I wound up buying Italian McDonald's at the train station. It was pretty gross, but we had a booth to sit in until train time.
I slept during much of the train ride, and our seats were lovely and comfortable, especially after the torture bus from yesterday. And oh Venice, even sick the sight of you made me so happy when we arrived at the train station. That feeling wore off quickly, however, when our Airbnb host was an hour late letting us into the flat. It wasn't the best introduction to Venice for Alex, but he'll see the beauty of the place tomorrow when we get out and explore.
Finally secure in our new home for six nights, we made the decision to stay in for the evening, despite the early hour. It was a good choice because I was not feeling well and Alex needed to rest his poor leg. Sleeping in Snoopy football sheets made the world feel like a better place, however. We dined on our bread, cheese and meat that we didn't eat yesterday, and then retreated to our rooms for the night. Cough. Cough. Cough.
