Greetings from the UK! Boy, it took a really long time to get here - like a full week! You'd think there would be a faster way...oh yeah. So no regrets from the travelers for taking the slow road to Europe - I'd recommend it to others with a few caveats (which look a whole lot like complaints, so I'll leave them for Cunard and proceed with my bloggy task). We took a shuttle from Southampton UK to the city of LONDON. And boy is she gorgeous (the city, not the shuttle...or its driver, whom we forgot to tip. Ouch says Emily Post). We were dropped right in front of our AirBnB, which is right in the center of town, maybe? The flat is on the 4th floor and for 3 of the 4 floors there's an elevator. Then we had to travel up the winding staircase to our penthouse abode, which is equipped with high speed internet. Let me say that again...HIGH SPEED INTERNET! What a first world problem to have for seven days, whining about the absolutely abominable wifi on the ship. But, in case you missed it, the previous post is a picture dump from the ship that includes all the photos I wanted to share but could not, since - bad wifi.
First stop of the day was the famous department store of PBS drama series fame and, well, fame fame - Selfridges. We hung out in the unbelievable food court and ate our first non-ship (xanax-laced?) cuisine. Then, we walked to Hyde Park, a huge, lovely, crowded and fowl-filled treat. Mom walked 10,600+ steps today, which I gotta say, is a personal best by far on this voyage. Hmm what did we see? Lots of rollerbladers, some making movies destined for YouTube; a full museum (the North Serpentine), which was an audio treat; lawn chairs that we didn't sit in, nor did most other folks because of the high rental price (think renting a lounge chair on a popular beach, keeping the price the same, removing the sand, making the lounge more of a mini hammock, and you've got the Hyde Park rentals); swans!!!!!; other birds (are all birds fowl? Or are all fowl birds? or both? - jenny help me here).
Now after all this walking we were tired, tired, tired, so we Ubered back to Selfridges to grab dinner and breakfast from the food emporium and then made our way back to our flat. Oh - there's a flight of stairs that leads to the elevator. a 3 floor elevator ride, and a curvy, tight flight of stairs to finish our trek. I mention this because it was at this moment that I carried all of our luggage and our new foodstuffs up to the tippy top. So now we find ourselves lying prone on couches and chairs, unsure of our future ability to walk. Will update on that tomorrow.
