Hello from the Atlantic, where the music is old and the internet connection is older. If you don't see a blog post in the next few days, it's either because it's a bad internet day or the ship has sunk. Please assume the former.
Today (erm, yesterday, but go with it), Mom and I attendted two lectures, feeling ready to satisfy our ocean-locked need for intellectual stimulation. The first was about Lord Nelson and his gossip-worthy affair with the Lady Hamilton. There were many very interesting anecdotes, but I have to say, learning about how Lord Nelson lost first his right eye and then his right arm and subsequently defeating Napoleon was pretty much the highlight. Turning a blind eye...
Then it was time for a download from the ship's art curator about street art, Banksy's influence and the rise of his protege Mr. Spasm (no that's not right...Mr. Brainwash). The lecture was pretty informative and included some images of some famous Banksy works as well as lesser known pieces. My forever favorite Banksy was the girl with the balloon that was at auction, sold for $1 million, and then immediately fell through a shredder imbedded in the picture frame. Now, of course it's worth around $18 million, half shredded. Oh Banksy, you are a clever one.
Every day at 3:30, tea is presented in the Queen's Room. It's not as fancy as it sounds. No tiered tea tray or frilly hats are involved but the food is good and the talk wtih random strangers is often entertaining. You may find that this blog repeats itself over the next several days, since there's a pretty routine schedule to our activities. Lecture, lecture, show or performance, lecture, tea, dinner, show or movie, and bed. Or, if you happen to be us,...coffee shop, lecture, maybe another lecture, library, tea, library, dinner, cabin for reading. Regardless, it's all easy and relaxing.
Dinner tonight was again a delight and so was reading in bed afterwards, feeling the ship rock to and fro in a lullaby of movement that had me asleep in minutes. This is ife on the QM2
***Pictures to come when wifi agrees to cooperate***
