Sand art and board games and late night talks

Another day at the ranch. Our group has become quite comfortable with our surroundings, filling the rooms with belongings and bodies and developing a routine for our days. Today was a gem. Up early, I had a rare cup of coffee on the porch watching the atypical cloudy New Mexico morning unfold. After a yummy pancake breakfast, we spent the morning playing games. Our favorite was Snake Oil, a party game that was easy for all ages. We created products to market to clients using two cards. Creations included the famous Alcohol Doll and the ever popular Rainbow Urge. Good times.
After lunch most of the kids hung out on the back porch and created sand art. We had one minor mishap with a broken bottle, the cracks of which formed a heart. Poor Andre, owner of the broken sand art bottle was heartbroken about the loss of his project. We also created oceans in a bottle with sand and colored water. Kids added small fish, shells, gems and glitter to complete the project. Pretty messy. I’m still finding glitter on me, even after a shower.
Folks also tried archery in the front of the ranch, even some of the littles in our group. I stayed out long enough to snap a few photos and then retreated to the board game table. It’s more my speed.
Dinner was yum. And the end of the day was filled with pictures of Eliza’s trip to the Cayman Islands with her dad. She’s becoming a great photographer, especially of birds, her main passion. Smarty. Late into the night Jen, Eliza, George and I stayed up talking about the state of the world and the challenges of being teens back in our day and today. I love my family so much and am grateful for having each and every one of them in my life.
