Our train left at 10 AM and we enjoyed a good game of May I as we exited Paris. The ride was a breeze - just two hours and we arrived in wonderful Lyon, a favorite of mine from my 2017 trip with Alex. The place we are staying is just a few blocks down from the spot that the two of us loved so much on that trip. After a bit of settling in time, the now, alas, three of us took a stroll down the Rue du Bœuf, our little lane. At the spot where Alex and I drank Mojitos two years ago almost to the day, Mom and I did the same, with George looking on, drinking water. Crepes were also had, of the savory AND sweet variety. Crepes in France are the stuff of heaven. And these were no exception. Mom had a sweet crepe with two ‘boules’ of ice cream and I had envy, despite the caramel crepe in front of me. Lyon has a much more relaxed vibe than Paris, and we lingered over our meal.
Our walk afterwards took us through a few of old town Lyon’s most famous streets, some of which were crowded with tourists. I stopped at the bakery that was our favorite from 2017 and picked up a few treats. The streets in Lyon all look like movie sets to me, all cobbled and pristine. And our place is classic Lyon, nestled behind an ancient door, followed by an iron door, up winding stairs and then off of a lovely courtyard. Lyon is filled with hidden passageways and courtyards, which we will be exploring in the coming days. And now it’s movie time. Tomorrow we day trip to Geneva!
